Plamsic Formations & Teeth Collection
split & collab 4 cassette box $13
ESR101
This 4 cassette box was initially made for the march 08 tour with To-Night Golden Curls, where they preformed as a duo rather than two solo sets (which if you seen them live, is more often the case than getting to actually see them perform solo). This box contains one c30 of Teeth Collection solo, a re-issue of the out of print “Fire Mouth / Smoke Breather” tape originally released on Italian label Long Long Chaney, one c40 of Plasmic Formations solo, a re-issue of the out of print “Calm Before The Storm” tape originally released here on esr, and two c40’s of Teeth Collection & Plasmic Formations performing as a duo. This is a great introduction to both their solo work and their work as a duo.

Meaning
untitled C-30 $7
ESR100
Meaning is an improv electro-acoustic trio imploring non lyrical vocals and treatments, concrete sounds, minimal electronics set ups, utilizing live “processing” and looping, and percussion from sources as varied as amplified small sounds to junkyard metal (a few actual drums get in there too.) all swirling in a polyrhythmic, ritualistic, enveloping sound world with out any conventional guitar, bass, drum kit “rockisms” to ground your shamanistic journey. Meaning is made up of members of Plasmic Formations, Teeth Collection, Original Tongues, Small Life, Ghost of Obtuse, Yes,Collapse, Kvlt of Unicron, Black Almas, and Antennaeboy (which basically evolved/dissolved into Meaning)

Black Almas
untitled C-30 $7
ESR099
Strange voices crawl in and out of dense layers of caustic claustrophobia, bowel moving low end and stretches of near silence, metal scraps and clatter, shards of electronics blister, blissed out tones, and junkyard rhythms boiled into a molten lava. Trio of concrete arteries, plasmic formation and teeth collection.

Original Tongues

ESR097
“Disparity and Likelihood” is the first release from Original Tongues, which is Eli from small life, meaning, antennaeboy, etc. O.T. is quite a bit like small life, only more focused and mature, where I think small life is more of an experiment to see what works and what doesn’t for Eli, and from what he tells me is an autobiography. If you liked the small life releases at all, you will be blown away by O.T.

Kvlt Of Unicron
untitled (show tape ) C-30 $7
ESR096
two side long tracks on the new… side a is KofU as 3 piece, blasting out blackened beats and tone harshness. Side b is the whole group on an unusually harsher jam. Each side sounds drastically different than the other, and drastically different than the debut while still retaining the droned out creep factor that has folks referring to them as a “super group”. ltd to (?) pro printed covers on textured paper.

Millipede
hyrule C - 30 $7
ESR095
Yes the name Hyrule is a Zelda reference, which is evidently also inspiration for these recordings… but regardless of weather or not 8-bit is yr thing, this is really cool doom sludge by way of my bloody valentine. Super heavy riffs, sometimes melodious, sometimes, absolute feedback noise, drones, minimal and minimal percussion. Worth yr time to check out.

Dull Knife
untitled C-30 $7
ESR092
Dull Knife are Zen masters, there are four members in this group, and upon my initial listen I was amazed at their restraint. Usually it’s damn near impossible to maintain this kind of menacing “drifting in space” drone with more then one or two people without it getting all mucked up with busyness. This has a perfect ebb and flow reminds me of the isolationism movement from the mid 90’s

Malachia
Monkey Reveled Malachia cd-r $7
ESR091
Italian noise group Malachia bring forth some strange almost new age drone work. It seems like this record is some kinda concept album as there seems to be quite the narrative going on, but I’m not totally sure what that concept or narrative is. Pretty brilliant stuff for laid back stoner moments.

Vesuvan
untitled C-30 $7
ESR090
Both sides of this tape, while sounding drastically different, are created from a collage of inventive loops, taped monologs, and electronic weirdness, all undergoing the pitch shift, tape speed, and delay treatment. Side A is like a collage of pop music if the radio was melting, while B is much creepier and uses mostly voices as it’s source. Very soundtrack like.

Arklight are hard to describe, the easy way out would be to simply say they FUCKING PUMMEL, but that’s not really much of a description. This is like an endless barrage of percussive sounds being piled high on top of each other, weird rhythmic loops, live drums & drum machines, sirens, blown out guitars, vocal murmurings, all sounding like it’s being treated, processed, chopped up and regurgitated in real time into a dense mass the FUCKING PUMMELS

Two side long tracks, both recorded in 2007, one made mostly from field recordings of the “Happy Days Sound Festival” in Norway, the other built entirely from recordings of the ANS Synthesizer at the Thermin Center in the Moscow Conservatory. Warning Lights / Colossus
split C-30 $7
ESR082
Warning lights side: - Georgia seem to have a super cool scene, Destructo Swarmbots, Black Meat, Oubliette, 1 Thousand Holy Shards, Magicicada, probably more that I’m forgetting and Tree Creature… of who’s Drew Haddon is also Warning Lights. The sidelong piece was created entirely out of synths and is a smoldering, slow building, and constantly evolving brilliant drone masterpiece.
Colossus side: Colossus is Ryan Laliberty from New Hampshire, and his shit is fucking brilliant. This sidelong track goes from luscious suspended drones to weird tribal industrial clatter, to full on psych jam. Dunno if he had others playing on this part or if he overdubbed the drum guitar workout, but either way this shit jams and doesn’t jam in all the right ways.

this one of those tapes that when you feel like yr kind of bored with noise, you listen too this and get excited again. Not yr typical harsh wall… this is a super dynamic electro-acoustic style flesh peeler. Yes it’s heavy as shit at times, but it also shows a soft side… something to contrast the heavy and make it seem all the more violent. Subtly is not always something you here in noise. this is not the caves from ky that I’ve played with live and has tapes on husk and ides… this caves is from ny… I didn’t actually realize that until after I asked him to do this tape, and I will eventually ask the other caves to do a release, as he is a cool dude and really knows how to kick out the jams. That being said let me say a few things about this caves… also a totally cool dude. And one that really knows how to tear the flesh from yr face with a doomed /sludged out / strung out / blackened guitar drone… the feedback and distortion is constantly on the verge of breaking up into the void before another thunderous cord brings It back to the blackened bliss. This blackened unholy beast is made up from 2/3rds of To-Night Golden Curls, M. Reis of Teeth Collection and Josh from Plasmic Formations. This is a brutal drone fest of the vilest proportions. Brown note bass rumbles, factory scrapes, synth moans, lots of creepy not quite silences. It’s like they took the creep factor from all their other projects and turned it up to eleven. JPTR
S/T C-30 $7
ESR076
This recording was not what I expected… the result of not really listening to a band enough before asking them if they want do a release. At the best times this recalls some kind if tribal This Heat, at worst, some kind of bad vocals, and some cheese samples. But other than that, this is a pretty interesting engagement. Reminded me a lot of a subtle version of some 90’s era skin graft band, or maybe a little bit like a watered down version of early swans. Strange stuff.

My boy Ray from Vestigial Limb and his dude Lorne from Flea Apparitions flat out level the field with this duo. Brutal, super harsh, one-man band industrial black metal from the Netherlands. The myspace page mentions leviathan, swans, coil, abruptum and khanate as influences, which is really kind of a good description. Blackened industrial metal that has so much atomosphere that it’s almost not metal. EVIL!

This is a skonking violent rampage… the violence is there… but don’t let the name fool you… this isn’t jazz… this is totally devastation. There are a few times on this recording that it almost resembles jazz…a total cacophony of sound that recalls only the most extreme of free jazz. Jabladav
3Khum C-30 $7
ESR071
Jabladav was evidently a studio only project based around 3 people from 95-99… evidently, one of those dudes kept the name and the “spirit” of the group and now does this stuff solo. Other releases by Jabladav are black metal ala Weakling or Wolves In The Throne Room. So I guess that after I asked James to do a tape for epicene_esr, he must of thought it would be a good idea to give me some drone pieces. While I really wanted some of the B.M. stuff… these drone pieces are gorgeous. Massive bellows of guitar driven drone. Kind of reminds me of Justin Broadrick’s Final… or maybe when Andy Hawkins of Blind Idiot God did that Skinner’s Black Labs project. Pretty sinister dark drones

Ghost of Obtuse
S/T C-30 $7
ESR070
Ghost Of Obtuse is a duo of Josh Fink (plasmic formations, kvlt of unicron, antennae boy collaborator, ex-yes,collapse, etc) and M. Reis (teeth collection, kvlt of unicron, antennae boy, ex-yes,collapse, etc.). From the list of other projects, former groups, etc. one can tell that these dudes have played together a lot. The intuitive nature of there playing reflects that… like most of their projects, this is entirely improvised, but most of the time you would probably think at least parts were worked out. Nope, total improv! For this new project they wanted to do something different than there usual blend of drone and scrape… this is more reminiscent of Aufgehoben, fractured super effected beats (from live processed real drums being played in real time), rhythmic synth lines, total organic organization instead of abstract flow, and everything covered in filth.

Teeth Collection / Migrations In Rust
Split C-20 $6
ESR069
Teeth drop some more slow burner factory decimation. The sound you’ve come to expect from teeth… or at least come to expect half the time… when he’s not throwing in some abstract tape cut ups or black prog fuckery. This is the sound of the ghost in the distance. The sounds of building collapsing from far far away. The crystal crackle of bones being shattered into dust. The calm before the guillotine blade drops.
Migrations in Rust deliver the shimmering sounds of extreme beauty. I can not express to you how this track make me feel. Like something sinister is about to happen or is already happening, but yr somehow calm. This is the sound of Leng Tch’e: the feeling of euphoria as yr limbs are slowly hacked away.

Here is the chaos you might come to expect from A.B. actually this maybe more chaotic than usual. Teeth Collection / Sports
Split C-30 $6

This is some seriously grim, grim shit! Sports bring it black vocals, best use of a piano I've heard in a long time (doesn't anyone else realize the potintial of the inside of the piano?) , some sorta of tea kettle hiss or harsh wind billowing in the background. This has a very electro-acoustic feel to it all, a blackened electro-acoustic feel that is.
The Teeth side is a live recording from inside the walls of the Mckabee in Cincinnati Ohio from the 2006 ART DAMAGE "Brutal Damage Fest". Hugh rooms with curved ceilings, the greatest natural reverb ever! By far my favorite place to play on the planet. Metal on metal scrapings, coils, perparation devices, delays. blissed out factory drones.

Black Moss / Josh Lay
Split C-30 $6
ESR052
Kentucky More grimmness from the blackened noise gods. Side one is a mail collab between the two. The ceremony begins with a pulsing rhythm, with overblown tones and metal screech coming in and out of the muck. Around 4 min we get into what seems like the 2nd movement, much more violent and abrasive, again there is a rhythm, but this one is struggling for air amidst the gunk. At 7 min we get to movement 3.. feedback, gorgeous blissful feedback, which gets ugly real quick.
Side two is a solo track eac. The first being BLack Moss, vocals and feeback mesh together for a thick garbled mess. Josh Lay follows this with slow motion pig chanting, which ends up shredded ork by the malfunctioning machines of the doom factory.

Teeth Collection / Is
"..." Split C-40 $6
ESR051
Kentucky When it comes to harsh noise, I'm usually not a big fan of tracks that are 20 min long. Typically it's on long wall of sound with never enough dynamics to keep you from wanting to blow yr brains out with a shotgun. IS is the exception to this rule. This track never stops moving, nothing sits long enough to get boring, and nothing is so short that it's totally missed altogether. this is fast paces, violent, musique-concrete at it's best.
For my side I decided to attempt the 20 min long peice as well, i figured seems how i usually don't dig that lenght, it would be a challenge to make something that i would enjoy of that lenght. so i went with a tae composition... angelic pulses, distant voices, metal scrapings, tape collage using machinery sounds, nature sounds, old performances, creaking doors, fwd, rwd, and other unidentafiable sounds. cut up some circuit bent drum machine grindcore overload and watched the whole thing drip our of the eye sockets of a hollowed out skull.
Cover by Bryan Tholl (IS), pro printed on gloss paper. Ltd to 40.

Teeth Collection
Flowers For Algernon C-20 $5
ESR049
I made 10 of these for the st. Louis noise fest, and came home with one. So unfortunately these were sold out long before I could get them up here. Falling more in line with my half of the iovae split cd-r, this is a more electro-acoustic affair than some of the more recent harsh face shredding electronic blasts. Two sidelong tracks, one using prepared guitar and effects, the other using a tone box, effects and my coil set up. Ltd to 10 copies and stuffed in a tape case that was layered with metal objects, spackle, oil and spray paint, polyurethane, and spray glue. At the fest these were referred to as the “gross mess cass” and the “it’s still sticky” tape.

Love Letters
Girl Next Door C-30 $6
ESR048
This is a husband and wife duo that also runs the loveless tapes label. More total chop and slop tape fuckery for the modern musique-concrete cannon mixed with some serious masonna like fast paced pedal aktion. This is the sound of cassette decks everywhere exploding, this is the sound of buildings collapsing, this is the sound of love... brutal and violent. Two sidelong tracks that never let up... but this is no single tone wall of nothing... this is fast paced face shredding tape mutilation. a total killer
pro printed cover on gloss paper. ltd to 30.

Vestigial Limb
Gravity's Rainbow C-30 $5
ESR047
Kentucky fried electronics. One dude, a record player, a mountain of tapes, and some serious fx. Sorta reminds me of a less silly, and maybe harsher hanatarash. This is a head-spinning miasma of harsh swirling madness. Up coming track on Hanson’s underground series, I sent some of these to Aaron, and they sold out in a few days. Keep an eye on this guy.
Ltd to 30 copies. b&w photo copies on orange cardstock, and red spray paint.

Oubliette
Swamp Touch C-30 $5
ESR046
I seem to see oubliette everywhere now, and with good reason. Essentially oubliette is a modern day musique-concrete composer, and he’s been getting his crude tape experiments around (Hanson, audiobot, turgid animal, no horse shit, loveless, etc). Oubliette takes Eddie prevost’s notion that “no sound is innocent” to a whole new height… lawn mowers and skipping cds are amongst a ton of other blips and burps and snapshot clips caught on tape then spliced through in a matter of seconds.
Ltd to 30 copies. b&w photocopy on pink cardstock, spray paint & stencel.

Wether
Churning C-20 $5
ESR045
Well this is a fucking banger! Dark, harsh, slowly “churning”, skull scraping evil! Blackened doom via noise. Mike Haley of no horseshit and electric human project fame drops some sick fear and omnipresent oppression right after he doses you with the bad acid and too much weed.
Ltd to 40. color covers on acetate w/ red spray paint.

Small LIfe
Range and Ability CD-R- $6
ESR044
First solo outing of the other half of antennae boy. We’ve been describing this, as dark folk like if all the “new weird America” fucked up folkies had taken the bad acid and not banged Lindsay lohan. Eli describes this as his “less song” oriented disc, hence he gave it to me to release. Kinda like some guy trying his hardest to play some sad distant guitar while a mountain of junk is being dropped on his head.

AntennaeBoy
A Shared Intrest In Destruction CD-R- $7
ESR043
Shared interest in destruction indeed. The cover says it all, corroding death junk collage, chunks of tin, oil, acrylic, and spray paints, paper, fire, card board, spackle, polyurethane and spray glue were all used to create this hideous block of doom. And the music inside sounds quite a bit like the cover, sweat acoustic guitar is shredded into splinters via electronic abuse, drums are clubbed by cave men, jagged chunks of scrap metal violent thrown around the nursery, sounds of the unknown.
Ltd to 25 copies

Ten Vocal Loops nohio vol 10 CS- $6.50

Yes,Collapse
Final Times nohio vol 9 CS- $6.50
ESR039
My old band with Matthew Reis (teeth collection) and Josh Fink (plasmic formations). One of our last recordings before our disbandment. This is where we always shined: stoned in Matt's basement surrounded by music equipment we had no idea how to use in any musical sense. Nice lo-fi recording welds the tapes, guitar, synths, and percussion into a muddy mess. 30 copies. - Dan Rizer (together tapes, back from iraq, etc)

Organs
Untitled 1 & 2 nohio vol 8 CS- $6.50
ESR038
Organs... what it sounds like inside you. Well this sounds like your insides have fallen out and you're slipping around in it trying to maintain your balance, pretty soon it's just blood and entrails everywhere... then you're dead. Nasty shit here. Organs is the collaboration project of Ron Orovits (Iovae) and C. Spencer Yeh (Burning Star Core), so you already know it rules. 30 copies - Dan Rizer (together tapes, back from iraq, etc)
